Have you learned a healthcare profession abroad and would like to practice it in Germany?
To do this, you must have your professional qualifications recognized.

 

As part of the recognition process, you must now also successfully pass a specialist language test to prove your specialist language skills.
This is based on the GER level B2 (C2 for speech therapists). The specialist language test replaces the B2 certificate.

 

The specialist language examination in the various health professions will be introduced gradually, which means that the different professional groups will not all start at the same time.

It is already mandatory in Bavaria, Bremen and Hamburg.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein: expected on 01.07.2023

Lower Saxony: Start date still unclear. From January 1, 2024 in all federal states.

The specialist language test is a scenario-based individual test. It lasts a total of 60 minutes and consists of the following three parts:

• a simulated professional-patient conversation (20 minutes)

• a simulated conversation with a member of the same or another professional group from the health sector (20 minutes)

• the preparation of a document that is commonly used in the respective professional practice (20 minutes ).
